MobilePay is one of the Nordics' most widely adopted mobile wallets, used by roughly three-quarters of the population in Denmark and more than half in Finland. Operated by Vipps MobilePay, it lets customers authenticate and confirm payments directly in the MobilePay app, without sharing card or bank details with the merchant.

For merchants, that means tapping into a payment method consumers already know and trust, driving higher conversion in two of the Nordics' most cashless markets.

Principle of operation

  1. Selection at checkout
    Customer selects MobilePay as the payment method.
  2. Payment initiation
    Merchant sends a payment request to Solidgate with future_usage payment_type set to one-time . Solidgate returns a redirect URL in pay_form return_url .
  3. Redirect to MobilePay
    Customer is redirected to the MobilePay hosted payment page.
  4. Authentication and confirmation
    Customer authenticates and confirms the payment in the MobilePay app using a PIN or biometrics.
  5. Merchant notification
    Solidgate receives an AUTHORISATION webhook from MobilePay and notifies the merchant of the final outcome. The webhook is sent even if the customer closes the browser before returning to the merchant.
  6. Return to merchant
    Customer is redirected back to the merchant return_url .
MobilePay is an asynchronous payment method. The order status remains processing until the AUTHORISATION webhook is received. Use the webhook as the source of truth for the payment outcome, not the redirect return alone.
